Aikido, What Is It?

Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba (often referred to as 'O Sensei' or 'Great Teacher'). On a purely physical level it is an art involving some throws and joint locks that are derived from Jujitsu and some throws and other techniques derived from Kenjutsu. Aikido focuses not on punching or kicking opponents, but rather on using their own energy to gain control of them or to throw them away from you. It is not a static art, but places great emphasis on motion and the dynamics of movement.

The Class

Aikido classes are taught by Sensei Frank Roberto, a sandan (3rd degree black belt), twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:15 to 9:00 pm. The class is located at Eastern Idaho Technical College in Idaho Falls, Idaho. All fees are payable to EITC. You'll find the fees to be extremely reasonable and less expensive than just about any other martial art in the area. At the time of this writing, Aikido instruction is $120 a semester at EITC.

You may call EITC at (208)524-3000 for up to date class times and the latest fees. EITC also allows the class fee to be paid via phone. Feel free to email us or call (208)520-2223 with any additional questions you may have. NEW! Read the latest news on our dojo blog
